As we are already seeing that most of the premium automobile brands already started focusing on EVs, JLR is also planning to revamp their lineup by launching more EV SUVs in the future. The company also confirmed that the upcoming Land Rover Velar, Land Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery SUVs will be only electric. JLR is planning to launch the all new Land Rover Velar EV in 2024.
The next gen Range Rover EV will come on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform which will support fully electric and hybrid powertrains. JLR will use the same for all the EVs in the future. Initially, the brand will procure the batteries from the external partners and eventually they will be manufactured at the Tata Motors Gigafactory which will be ready in the next 5 years.
The EV Ranger Rover will look same as the existing ICE (internal combustion engine) models. For more power and better performance, Ranger Rover EV will come equipped with two driven axles to match the power produced by an IC Engine.
To begin with, Ranger Rover EV will directly compete with Mercedes Benz EQS SUV, it will become a direct competitor once it bring the full size EV SUVs.
Similarly, all the upcoming Land Rover lineup will also be only electric, company is targeting to produce only EVs by 2036.
The upcoming Land Rover SUV’s; Land Rover Velar, Land Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discover Sport will be only electric. Land Rover Velar EV will enter the market in 2o24 from the companies Halewood Merseyside plant which is based out of the UK. All the upcoming EV SUVs will come based on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform, batteries will be first procured from third party partners, once the Tata Motors EU Battery Factory is ready, it will serve the need. Company is also investing £380 million (~ Rs 3,885 crore) to make its Halewood Merseyside plant to be EV ready by 2024.
