As everyone is aware that you can set/change the UPI PIN using your debit card. But here is an alternative available now, Google Pay launched a new feature which enables the users to set UPI pin using 12 digit Aadhar number as well in partnership with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
With this Aadhar based onboarding process, users are not required to provide their debit card details to set the UPI PIN. Please note that this is only available for a few banks now and is expected to be rolled out to all the banks very soon.
Below are the steps involved in setting UPI PIN using Aadhar:
- They should have same mobile number on their bank account and Aadhar card.
- Aadhar card should be linked to the bank account.
- Once the user choose to setup via debit card, they will be asked to enter the first six digits of the Aadhar card.
- They will receiving OTP (One Time Password) from bank and UIDAI for verification.
- Once the verification is completed, users can go ahead and setup the UPI PIN.
- Once the UPI PIN is set, users can use their Google pay to do merchant payments, transfer money and check balance.
Please note that there will be a limit of Rs.5000 for the first 24 hours after the UPI PIN is set (It may vary from bank to bank)
Google also claims that the Aadhar data will be safe and won’t be saved with Google, it will be sent to NPCI/UIDAI for verification purpose only.
